Little Jackfish Hydroelectric Project

Photo of Little Jackfish Hydroelectric ProjectThe Municipality of Greenstone is proud to support regional First Nations and the proposed Little Jackfish Project. This undertaking is being conducted in close cooperation with three First Nation communities located within Municipal boundaries, including Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek.

Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) is proposing to develop approximately 75 megawatts of renewable hydroelectric power through the construction of a generating station on the Little Jackfish River, which drains into Lake Nipigon (Proposed Undertaking). There is no existing hydroelectric development on the river. The generating station will include a dam with a water intake and by-pass structure, a powerhouse and a tailrace channel. Associated facilities include access roads, borrow areas for construction materials and a large temporary construction camp. Transmission facilities to connect the Proposed Undertaking to the provincial grid will also be required.
